Ahh, Amazon Prime, the wild, wild west of fashion retail. You order, open the box, and you really, truly never know what you’re going to get. For my inaugural “In Real Life” piece, I explored the world of Amazon retailer Ecowish, and today, I’m following that up by giving you my Amazon Prime Swimwear Review.
I recently got back from a trip to Hawaii, and I figured that vacation would be a perfect time to test out some of these styles.
I was inspired to write this after being served with years of ads for the brand, Cupshe, which at face value, has some really cute bathing suits. But bathing suits aren’t something to mess around with. A see-through bottom, a broken strap, and you could be Janet Jackson on your next family vacation.
Also, don’t we all just want to look our best in a bikini?
So here’s what I look for in a bathing suit: support (in allll the places), shaping (is it enhancing my shape?), fit, comfort and material, and then of course, whether it’s cute or not.
For this project, I ordered swimsuits from four different Amazon Prime Retailers: Cupshe, Dokotoo, Blooming Jelly, and BMJL. And they were really chosen at random, based on which retailers had the cutest bathing suits.
Amazon Prime Swimwear Review
Cupshe
Let’s start with the brand that inspired this post: Cupshe. This brand has been popping up in my Facebook feed FOREVER. And their products are really cute; I’ve always been particularly into this palm print bikini.
But I decided to play it safe and go with this black and white crochet trim bathing suit for $32.99 total. For some reason, black feels less risky when buying cheap swimwear.
In real life, this suit was decent, but not good enough to keep. Overall, it didn’t feel as cheap as I expected, and it fit decently well.
My primary criticism is that the crochet trim didn’t stretch at all, which made it uncomfortable and itchy, and the top was pretty unsupportive. However, I would definitely try buying from them again. But if you’re curvier and really need support, I would avoid this brand.
Dokotoo
Ok this is a CLEAR knock-off of the Tularosa bikinis that have been so popular on Revolve and retail for $80 a piece. This suit is $25 and comes in a variety of colors and patterns.
I have very little to say about this one other than it showed up smelly in certain places, and that’s just unforgivable. Will 100 PERCENT be skipping any of their products in the future.
Here’s a few (unverified) similar options: one/two/three.
Blooming Jelly
What great names Amazon boutiques have! Despite Blooming Jelly being a name that I never want associated with my bikini body, this $24 swimsuit was pretty cute in person.
It was obviously “inspired” by Rye Swimwear’s Momo Bikini, which is now sold out everywhere. I purchased that same swimsuit last summer, and I will say this looks just like it.
However, the Blooming Jelly version was sized very large, and the top was pretty unsupportive. I’m sure there’s a better way to phrase this, but I just felt like it gives you floppy boobs, and no one wants that.
BMJL
Now onto the good! I really like this striped bikini that I got from BMJL for $22.99. I even brought it with me on my recent trip to Hawaii. It reminds me a lot of the brand Solid & Striped, and I love the bold colors.
I found it to be fairly flattering, although it too runs a little big. The bottom is more of a cheeky style…great for sunbathing! The only thing I don’t like about it is that the top is non-adjustable, so I would probably size down to make it a little more form-fitting.
So my overall consensus for this Amazon Prime swimwear review is that curvier people and especially women with larger breasts should probably avoid these brands.
You can definitely find some vacation gems on Amazon, but many of the styles can be sad and shapeless.
