Sedona Travel Guide: Where to Stay

Hi friends!  I just returned from a relaxing stay in Sedona with friends and wanted to share all of my favorite places and spaces that we discovered on the trip.  I’m kicking things off for my Sedona travel guide with the lowdown on where to stay.  Wednesday, I’m sharing where to eat, and on Thursday, what to do while in Sedona.

Sedona is known for its epic hikes, positive energy and inspiration; this made it a perfect spot to celebrate a birthday with gals in transition and looking for a little spiritual renewal.  The looming red rocks and their orange glow make for an otherworldly feel.  It’s no wonder why USA Today named it the most beautiful place in America.

We stayed at the Kimpton Amara Resort.  And while it’s a bit spendy, I think it was well worth the price.

Kimpton Amara Resort

Location

Located in the heart of Uptown Sedona and at the base of the stunning red rocks, this is a perfect spot to launch any adventure. We spent one day by the pool, another day wandering around town and the other road tripping out to Antelope Canyon.  More on that in the coming days!  The Amara is located on the far side of town, so it made it easy to get out of Sedona quickly for our desert excursion.

Amenities

A bit brisk in March, but we had to get in some infinity pool time!  Especially with this view.  Despite being in the heart of town, the resort still managed to feel peaceful and removed.  Another big plus, a daily wine happy hour for guests.  Pool time, free wine, what more do you need?!

They also have the cutest outdoor fire pits, complete with floor pillows and blankets to hang out under the stars.  Sedona has a dark sky ordinance and is one of only 18 official Dark-Sky cities in the world, meaning the star gazing here is exceptional.Kimpton Amara Resort

Other favorite perks:  free shuttle to take you around town, morning yoga, a meditation room, free bikes and it’s super pet friendly…see below!  The staff here was incredibly warm and quick to point you in the direction of a delicious meal or a favorite shop.

Food and drinks

I’m going to do a full roundup of our favorite eateries in Sedona in the next few days, but wanted to shout out the hotel’s restaurant, SaltRock Southwestern Kitchen.  We only did drinks and small bites there, but they made a solid margarita and the appetizers were tasty.  Plenty of gluten free options as well.SaltRock Southwestern Kitchen

Other recommended resorts:

  • Enchantment Resort – Extreme Luxury
  • L’Auberge de Sedona – Luxury
  • Hyatt Residence Club Sedona, Pinon Pointe – Mid-Range
  • Best Western Plus Arroyo Roble Hotel – Mid-Range

See you back here tomorrow for where to eat in Sedona!
