So I’m one of those folks who really likes to savor every season. And even though I adore fall and decorating for fall and whipping up pumpkin baked goods, summer usually ends way too quickly for my liking. That being said, I usually hold off to decorate my house for fall until October, and since it’s October 2, it’s time for an affordable fall decor post!
I like challenges, and so this year, I challenged myself to makeover our living room for fall on a budget of $130.
The best place to find affordable home decor, especially around the holidays? Target of course.
Let’s go shopping!
We still live in an apartment, so our lives center on the living room. We must spend 80% of our time here.
I tried to play to our furniture’s strengths. We have a dark brown leather couch that can always use some brightening up. I loved this navy and brown grid blanket, paired with the cable-knit pillow.
Pillows and blankets are a great place to start with your fall decor. This is where we spent the bulk of our budget for this project.
Tip: If you have basic color pillows, then you really only need a decorative pillow or a blanket to make feel like fall. We have some great cozy light gray sweater pillows from Target a few years ago, and they transition so nicely through most of the seasons.
I also tried to stick with a fall look that could easily take me through Thanksgiving; there’s very few Halloween specific things, so there’s no need to change it out in a month.
For coffee table or end table decor, there are so many things that you can incorporate that you most likely already own: basic votives, vases, etc.
Also, look around your neighborhood. You can use leaves, greenery and pine cones in a ton of different ways, and those things are FREE!
Looking for other small decor items? Always shop the bargain bins at Target first. You can often find all the decorative touches you need there like signs, garland, baskets. I took the festive potion bottle below and made it into a small vase.
If you’re looking for small pumpkins, Trader Joe’s is where you have to go: 69 cents a piece. Those always look super stylish when paired with greens and candles.
