I’ve been in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend, J, for the past seven years. That’s a big reason for much of my “homebody-ness.” J also works in sports, and in our type of career, only around 10 jobs exist in any given city. Combine that with the chance of one being open at the same time that you’re looking, and you can see why we still live apart (but we’re working on changing that!).
Thus, we have to connect over different things. We love to do movie and mixology dates (often themed).
This week, we decided to try out “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” It got mixed reviews, but I love anything that incites wanderlust. In it, he travels to Greenland, Iceland and the Himalayas, not exactly the best locales for inspired cocktails, but we tried.
Recipe – Strawberry Gimlet
P.S. Don’t ask me how this how to do with Iceland, but inspired by this
2 oz Vodka (they use Reyka Icelandic Vodka, but let’s be real, I live in Indiana; I used Svedka.)
Juice of 1 Lemon
4 Strawberries
1 oz simple syrup
Basil leaves
Splash of champagne or club soda
Step 1
Muddle strawberries and basil in a glass.
Step 2
Add vodka, lemon juice, simple syrup and ice.
Step 3
Top with champagne or club soda.
Delicious and super summery!
