The hunt for holiday gifts is in full swing. I don’t know about you, but I am most certainly NOT the type that starts my shopping early. And I can always use a little help from a gift guide (or two). But I wanted to do things a little differently this year. Since Portland is a city full of amazing little businesses, I wanted to share a Portland gift guide and help you shop local for the holidays.
I’ve teamed up with some of my favorite shops to share our holiday favorites for gifts across all spectrums from mom and dad to your co-workers.
I love Portland’s dedication to supporting small businesses. As a small business owner, I can’t stress how wonderful it is to live in a place where folks really want to see local businesses succeed.
Also, most of items are under $100. The most expensive thing on this list comes in at $209.
So enjoy, and happy shopping!
Portland Gift Guide
Adorn
(Division, Fremont St, Downtown, Lake Oswego)
Adorn is one of my favorite local boutiques in Portland. Boasting four locations across the city and down in Lake Oswego, they offer mid to high-end women’s clothing, accessories and fun home goods.
I really love this spot not only because they have good quality and on-trend items, but the people are SUPER friendly and helpful.
And how cute is this shop for the holidays?!
Shopping for mom…
These Johnny Was Collection scarves are beautiful! They come in three different colors/ patterns and are $135.
I really love the yellow one to rock through winter/spring tied around a bag or up in my hair in a pony or headband.
These travel mugs are perfect for a small friends/co-workers gift exchange.
Clothes can be really tough gifts to give, but I don’t think you can go wrong with these oversized turtleneck sweaters. They come in a TON of colors and are a steal for $78. I’m loving the deep blue and ivory, and what’s great about these is they’re pretty long, so you could easily size up and wear as a dress as well.
Stud earrings and candles… two of my favorite things! But seriously, I have these Voluspa candles in a million different scents, and they last forever.
Too cute for friends…
When’s my next vacation?! These is the perfect day-to-night clutch for a pool/beach getaway.
You can never have too many masks…
Gild
(Division St)
Walk about 10 feet from Adorn and find Gild, a cozy little shop that sells trendy shoes, accessories and other fun trinkets that make the ideal holiday gifts.
Inside, you’ll find big name brands like Dolce Vita and Steve Madden as well as a host of local handbag and accessory designers.
Initial necklaces are all the rage this year! Love how delicate these ones are.
I’ve been trying to expand my sneaker collection since moving to Portland. These white Frye’s are a splurge at $196, but I guarantee you will wear them with everything. And if you’re not into wiping them down every day in the Portland spring like me, there’s a black version as well.
I bought this beanie in cream, and it’s super soft. This makes a great friend or co-worker gift.
This clutch is really cool because it also doubles as a wristlet. Comes in three colors including black and cognac.
I am a total candle junkie. These ones from Tartine come in fourteen different scents. My favs of the bunch: Laurel Canyon, which smells powdery and fresh and St. John’s Wood, which smells like straight up Christmas.
You can’t go wrong with animal print this year, and these leopard booties are a steal… maybe for mom… maybe for yourself too!
These Sperry boots are a great Portland option for active folks. I have had a pair of their rain boots for many years, and they definitely last.
These little healing stone bracelets are my favorite pieces at Gild. The stones all represent different healing properties.
I bought a Kyanite one, which is one of the few minerals on the planet that doesn’t retain negative energy. According to the designer’s website, its healing properties are communication, high vibration and dreaming.
I used to sport the old school wish bracelets every summer, so this is like an adult version of that! Trying to keep the positive energy going into 2019.
Grayling Jewelry
(NE Alberta St.)
NE Alberta St. is another wonderful spot to shop in Portland. There you’ll find Grayling Jewelry’s storefront, where the pieces are all handmade (most in Portland!) and safe for sensitive skin (all nickel-free).
I personally think on-trend jewelry can make great gifts for just about anyone, and Grayling’s pieces really hit the mark at a reasonable price point. Few things in the store are over $150.
What I love about their jewelry is all of the pieces are designed to really wear in a number of ways. They work just as well with a cocktail dress as a work blazer.
A lot of their new pieces have a much more minimalistic vibe, both due to customer demand and the owner being inspired by the simple and classic “French girl fashion” looks on a recent trip to France. You’ll also notice the classic, glam inspiration in the names. Aria… Audrey… Sophia… you get the idea!
I’m a huge fan of stud earrings. Grayling’s sparkle and shine like no other and come in 13 different colors.
Love this gift set of the Audrey studs, and it’s under $100.
Or you could pair them with a necklace…
Trying to add in more delicate necklaces to my rotation like the Aria Y Necklace.
And you could even layer a few of these for a bolder look.
If you have multiple piercings, try color blocking with a bigger Audrey stud and the mini Marilyns!
These mixed metal bracelets are a perfect way to dress up that little black dress for the holidays.
I’m really into rings at the moment, and I am just obsessed with these cocktail rings. I cannot get over that they’re only $58.
Looking for a showstopper? These necklaces are part of Grayling’s “Reign” special edition collection. Only 30 of each piece were made, making them truly unique. Looks like fancy royal jewels you can actually afford (and buy!).
From the owner: “Wearing crystals close to the face works magic on any complexion – it’s like having your own personal lighting director on call 24/7.”
Red Sail
(NE Alberta St.)
Red Sail is an adorable home decor and accessories shop right down the street from Grayling on Alberta St. This is a wonderful spot to stop into to pick up a gift of any kind throughout the year.
They have everything from cozy throws to a full wall of clever greeting cards for any occasion.
The owner, Stacy Maiano, keeps this small photo of a working sailboat with one red sail near the register. She took the photo while on vacation in Belize from her job in magazines, and it has served as inspiration for her business ever since.
It’s not only a reminder of the rewards that come with working hard, but it’s a direct reflection of her design aesthetic and how she approaches buying for the store: beautiful but functional. It can be about little touches throughout your home that give it personality and style.
So if you know me, you know I’m slightly obsessed with pillows and throw blankets. That’s why Seek & Swoon caught my eye earlier this year. It’s a small Portland business that makes beautiful eco throws inspired by travel.
This Sedona throw is one of my favorites.
The guys in my life are always the hardest to shop for. Love the idea of a money clip or wallet, and this is also from a Portland company.
I always pick up games for people in my family. We love to sit around after Christmas dinner and play all the new ones we received! But we’re always shoving our games in a closet of some sort. This domino set can double as a pretty home decor piece long after you finish playing.
Gloves and scarves make great gifts for anyone. I feel like I always need them and never have any.
This fruits and vegetable poster is probably my favorite gift of the bunch here at Red Sail. I constantly am trying to google seasonal produce every time I’m in Trader Joe’s. Would love to hang one of these in my kitchen for a little help…
The Grapefruit/Cardamom combo smells amazing!
This necklace doubles as a bracelet when you wrap it.
Happy shopping everyone!
