It’s hard to believe, but we are just about on our seventh weekend in quarantine. Whatcha all been doing?! We have been watching a lot of TV. Not that different than normal life. Both Jake and I love TV and movies, and immersing in entertainment. That’s why today I wanted to share everything we’ve watched in quarantine and what we think the best TV shows have been.
First off, here’s what we are currently watching:
Atlanta: Yes we’re late to the party. Donald Glover annoys me, but I have to admit this show is fantastic.
Dave: This show is hilarious. I’ve described it as Atlanta meets Curb Your Enthusiasm. Dave is real-life rapper Little Dicky who had that song with Chris Brown a few years back. The show centers on the super-neurotic Dave who is trying to convince his friends and the world that he’s going to be the greatest rapper of all time.
Outer Banks: So, I’m only half an episode in, but it’s billed as being a sun-soaked teen action thriller about a guy and his friends looking for treasure linked to his dad’s disappearance. It feels like it will definitely be cheesy, but it’s captured my attention so far.
Also in the middle of:
–Greek, HULU : one of my bedtime shows. I never watched it when it was on TV, but it just makes me happy and transports me right to my college sorority days.
–Little Fires Everywhere, HULU: read the book, and so far enjoying this show.
–Ozark, Netflix: in the middle of the newest season. Love this show.
–Schitt’s Creek, Netflix: just starting, but hilarious. Follows a rich family who suddenly find themselves broke.
–The Last Dance, ESPN and Disney+: this is the documentary series on the 90’s era Chicago Bulls that’s airing every Sunday night on ESPN.
Now for my favorites…I think Caliphate has been one of the best TV shows I’ve watched during quarantine. It’s streaming on Netflix, and it follows an ISIS bride in Syria who is trying to get back home to Sweden amidst her husband planning a terrorist attack there. This show was actually one of the most watched shows EVER in Sweden.
I love a good thriller, and this was one that pulls you in from the start. Also, I binged all eight episodes in a day because I had to know what was going to happen.
The Last Dance has also been one of the best TV shows we’ve watched in quarantine.
It’s no secret I’m a big sports fan being a sports reporter for most of my adult life, but I also just love sports documentaries. This one has such incredible video and access from one of the most legendary sports teams ever. Not to mention you get to really see a different side of Michael Jordan that few have seen.
Jake’s favorites have been Dave and ZeroZeroZero on Amazon Prime (read below for the description). Both were shows that we went into watching knowing nothing about them, but ended up really pleasant surprises.
Everything We’ve Watched in Quarantine
Best TV shows for fans of The Bachelor:
Too Hot to Handle, Netflix: ridiculous, but amazing. Singles are sent to a house in paradise ala Love Island, but the twist is: they can’t kiss, have sex, do pretty much anything in that realm, or they risk losing prize money.
TOWIE, HULU: for sure, the worst of the British reality TV shows that I watch, but it scratches that itch. Plus you can put it on in the background, not really pay attention, and still know exactly what’s happening.
The Bachelor Presents Listen to Your Heart, ABC: this show is just so bad, but here I am, watching it anyways…
Love is Blind, Netflix
Dating Around, Netflix
Marrying Millions, HULU
Best TV shows for fans of Homeland:
ZeroZeroZero, Amazon Prime: This show was definitely one of our favorites. Think of it as Narcos meets the mob. It’s a Sky Atlantic show that follows an American shipping family trying to get a cocaine shipment from the cartels in Mexico to the Italian mob in Southern Italy. There’s A LOT that happens in between (so much so that you’re like how can this many things go wrong on one trip!), but it’s a great thriller.
Caliphate, Netflix
The Spy, Netflix
Best TV shows for fans of Pretty Little Liars:
Clique, HULU
Best TV shows for those missing sports:
Formula 1 Drive to Survive, Netflix
The Scheme, HBONow
The Last Dance, releasing new episodes Sunday nights on ESPN in addition to streaming on Disney+
Cheer, Netflix
All-American, Netflix
For those of you who are into the news:
Dirty Money, Netflix
Old favorites we’ve watched:
Curb Your Enthusiasm, HBONow
Silicon Valley, HBONow
Succession, HBONow
Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Amazon Prime
Insecure, HBONow
Love Island, HULU: I’ve watched all the British ones, however, they also have Australia now.
The Good Place, HULU
Homeland, HULU
What We’re Watching Next
Dead to Me, Netflix: I am so excited for this show to return for season 2 on May 8; it was one of my favorite shows of last year. It’s about a woman who’s husband dies in a hit and run, and she’s trying to find the person who did it. Along the way, she befriends an eccentric woman with a secret. It sounds like it should be a Lifetime movie, but it’s more of a black comedy. It’s really enjoyable.
Hollywood, Netflix: I CANNOT wait for this Ryan Murphy show. Comes out on Friday (May 1). It follows a group of actors and actresses trying to make it in Hollywood in the 40’s and all the scandalousness that comes with that.
Selling Sunset, Netflix: Season 2 coming
Dare Me, Hulu
Becoming, Netflix: top secret Michelle Obama doc coming out on May 6
The Plot Against America, HBONow
Killing Eve, Hulu: one of our all-time favorites, and a new season is out.
Never Have I Ever, Netflix
