Welcome to another edition of weekend reads! As things start to open up across the country, everyone’s experiences with the pandemic and life after have become really different. While some states have their salons and gyms back, others like Oregon, are still dealing with a more restricted life.
We’ve been taking quarantine quite seriously in our house and are going on day 76 of really not doing anything but walk and run outside and grocery shop.
And the decision as to how to act once things are back open in your city and state is deeply personal. There’s a lot of shaming going on as to what people should or shouldn’t do, so I wrote this in hopes of having a conversation around it and help us all learn from each other.
Re-entering society…
We dipped our toe into re-entry as we decided to venture to the beach on Sauvie Island this week. We went on a weekday and arrived around 3:30 in the afternoon. So how did we feel about it?
Ok. There were a little more people than I would’ve liked to be there, but we still were able to keep more than a six foot distance in every direction from people. The only variable here is other people respecting your space on any given day.
Another big question for folks is will they travel, when will they travel again and will they not travel until there’s a vaccine? Again, a really personal decision.
For me, I will have to travel at some point for the store. While you can buy things off a picture online, it’s really important for me to vet clothes in person, especially as a small business at the start of its life.
I also see us spending more time exploring Oregon this summer, taking mini road trips to the coast, wine country or Bend once hotels can be safely stayed at.
