Welcome to another round-up of weekend reads! One of the best parts of my week was getting credentialed to cover Feast Portland as a blogger for the first time.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Feast Portland…well first off, let me tell you it’s the best thing ever.
It’s a four-day food and drink festival, where some of the world’s best chefs, winemakers, mixologists, etc. descend on Portland to celebrate the latest trends in food and drink. And you basically eat and drink until time’s up or the food’s out. What a life!
Jake and I first started going for fun back in 2015; we actually stumbled upon totally by accident.
But we had the absolute best time at what’s now called “The Big Feast.” So much so, that it’s become a “thing” in our circle. Every year, we have friends and family fly in, and we spend the weekend in complete indulgence.
I will say, it’s been amazing to see how it’s grown over the last five years and really become a top tier food festival. Fodor’s Travel even named it one of “North America’s Top 15 Food Festivals.”
There’s also a heavy importance put on Oregon’s offerings and what makes the state special in the food scene.
This year, Feast Portland runs from September 12th through the 15th, and there’s plenty of tickets still available.
If you’re into wine (and drinking in general), I think the “Big Feast” (on both Saturday and Sunday this year) gives you the most bang for your buck. You pay $95 and walk around with a wine glass all day, getting unlimited pours and snacks.
If you’re more into the food, try “Night Market,” which is a night of global street food on the waterfront at Zidell Yards. This will be my first year attending Night Market because it usually sells out incredibly quickly. This ticket is $165, but it features dishes from some of the best chefs in the world, so I think it’s worth it.
I’m also a big fan of the “Drink Tank” series. They’re short classes/ seminars on different topics and trends in imbibing.
I’m personally looking forward to the “Cannabis and Cocktails” event, which explores the new frontier of this combination as marijuana legalization grows nationwide, and “The New Tropical,” a look at the resurgence of the Tiki drink.
Also be on the lookout this month for a recipe re-creation of my favorite drink of Feast Portland last year: a grilled peach bourbon.
