Weekend Reads | 3-15

Happy Friday everybody!  Excited to be home for a chill weekend after back to back weekends out of town.  I was just in Palm Springs last weekend, celebrating a friend’s birthday, and I can’t wait to share more about the incredible hotel we stayed at  coming up on Monday.  Here’s a sneak peek:  Holiday House Palm Springs - CouchI’ve been feeling a little under the weather since I got back, and I’ve diving into a lot of web reads this week.  So, it is a HUGE mix of topics in today’s weekend reads, from my thoughts on major newsworthy topics to more light-hearted style stories.

Weekend Reads | 3-15

– The story I CANNOT get enough of this week: the college bribery scandal.  There is also an excellent “Daily” podcast devoted to it this week.  One detail that floored me is that one of the kids never knew he had been classified as a track athlete until he showed up at school and started getting emails about track practice.  Also, this is a great piece from Elle with a Duke admissions officer, who says this sort of thing has been going on forever.

You may or may not know that I went to USC, one of the schools connected to the scandal.  I went on an academic scholarship and also played a sport (lacrosse) there.  I won’t say I’m surprised that this happened there.  There were plenty of classmates where you’d think, how the heck did they get in here?  At the time, however, it just struck me as more of a nepotism or legacy-thing than blatant bribery or corruption.  There are so many things to take from this story: how much importance we put on college education in this country, the sport of competitive parenting, what it means to “earn your spot.”  Interesting to see what changes from here.

– Ok, so who else watches “The Bachelor?”  I’m definitely that person who says they’re never watching again, and then three months later is like “ooh premiere party anyone?!”

So first things first…happy if they’re happy…

And while I get that this may be a more realistic ending than many other Bachelor seasons, I was left feeling a little weirded out by his dismissal of Cassie’s feelings and pushing the “I know she’s in love with me” card in the post-Me Too era…I think this Man Repeller recap presents an interesting take on this…

– Onto lighter topics!  A roundup of favorite accessories trends for spring…

– Calling all vegetarians…these Halloumi tacos looks to die for…

– Looking for a new swimsuit?  Solid & Striped has super cute ones and here’s a list of some that are up to 75% off…

-Don’t care much about St. Patty’s Day festivities…but damn this candy bark looks AMAZING…

– My favorite way to dress up a simple outfit right now is with embellished shoes.  Crystals, buckles, beads…I’ll take them all!

The first foray into this trend was with these $24 NA-KD kitten heels that I wore throughout the holiday season.  They’re that type of head-turning shoe that makes everyone ask where you got them from.  And I love being able to say they’re under $25.

Recently, I’d been looking to branch out from my sneaker/flip-flop/Ugg routine.  Enter the above shoes from Something Navy: so cute I had to buy in multiple colors.
