The Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn has long been on my Oregon bucket list.
Rows and rows of brightly colored tulips bloom every spring just 45 minutes outside of Portland and have since the ’70s. The owners, the Iverson family didn’t open the fields to the public until 1985, but thank goodness they did because it is an experience!
Set against the backdrop of Mt. Hood, the tulip fields are quite expansive; there’s 40 acres in all. And each year, they plant the 80 varieties in a different pattern, so you can keep coming back year after year to surprises.
Tulips are my favorite flowers, so it was on the top of my to-do list this spring. This sunset looking blend was my favorite.
The festival is dog friendly, which is awesome. No one had a better time than Winston, who is now hoping for a deal with John Deere.
There’s actually a lot more to do than just walk through the flower fields. They have wine tasting and a little market where you can pick up some cheese, meat and crackers. How perfect would a picnic in this spot be?
If you’re bringing the kiddo’s along, they have a large play area, tractor and cow train rides and water gun races. There’s also plenty of food options available.
And you can’t leave without bringing some tulips home! The market has fresh cut tulips for sale as well as bulbs and other potted plants.
The Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival runs through May 6 this year, and it costs $5 per person.
They also have some really cool events that run through the remainder of the festival including a Canon photography class and a five-course dinner in the tulip fields. Here’s where you can find more about what’s on the schedule.
The lavender fields are definitely on my summer bucket list; where else do we need to visit in Oregon?! Drop a comment below.
