Weekend Reads | 1-11

Happy Friday friends!  Many of today’s weekend reads revolve around self-care, something I’ve been really struggling with lately.

The picture above has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with this post, but I wanted to post a pic that brings me joy when I look at it.

Nothing quite brings me joy like being on the ocean.  We took this pic during our honeymoon in the Maldives.  The ladder is off the side of our over-the-water villa, truly a DREAM vacation.  I mean look at that water!

Sustainable Self Care is a great follow on Instagram, and this post really spoke to me when I was having a rough day this week.

Weekend Reads | 1/11

I’ve found the wet weather and January Blues to be real this year in the way that I just am having trouble with focus and carrying through… I love the idea of these 5 creative exercises to put me back on track…

Love this honest/thorough review on gravity blankets from The Stripe…have been looking into one for my sleep struggles…

The 11 brushes you should have in your makeup bag… (I have probably 3x this in there wasting space!)

I went to USC 2003-2007…this article on Hollywood clubs in the late 90’s and 00’s and never before seen celeb pics from inside made me feel all sorts of nostalgia

Finished the 30 for 30 podcast on Bikram yoga… REALLY interesting look at the dark side of Bikram yoga

Most interesting purchase this week:  Color Changing Cellu-Cup

…so SURPRISE just like every woman in this world, there are definitely certain parts of my body I’m not thrilled about and that includes cellulite.

As I get older, I’ve begun to notice that no amount of working out or eating right will make it totally go away.  I’ve started getting cupping on my shoulders and quads this year for old sports/workout related injuries, and I’ve really enjoyed it.  My therapist mentioned trying this to reduce the appearance of cellulite, so we’re giving it a try!  Will report back soon

Ok, as I mentioned last week, Jake and I doing the Whole 30; only 20 more days to go people!  Here’s a roundup of what we’ve made so far this week…

Whole 30 Recipes

Breakfast:

-Still eating….Turkey Apple Breakfast Hash

– Also made these Whole 30 Banana Muffins made with applesauce and almond meal – as happened last year, I think I have a bit of an almond sensitivity…almond flour in particular seems to make me a little itchy, so I subbed cassava flour in the second batch

Lunch/Snacks:

-Kept it simple and did grilled chicken and veggies with some sugar free BBQ sauce

Deviled Eggs – I used Primal Kitchen’s Paleo Mayo and added green peppers… a trick my old co-worker taught me!  Love the crunch…

Cashews with Green Onion and Chilis – One of my favorite dishes lately in Portland is Whiskey Soda Lounge’s roasted Thai cashews… it’s so simple, but they’re really delicious.. and easy to make for Whole 30… salty…spicy…nutty…mmmm

Dinner:

-“In and Out Burgers” – why were these the best things EVER?!  Omg I’m seriously obsessed and they totally tasted like the real thing…made with sweet potato “fries” (spiralized, drizzled with avocado oil and whatever spices I was feeling, baked in the oven at 400 degrees for 25 mins)

Roasted Tomato Basil Soup – can never go wrong with Ina Garten… this is a winter repeat recipe in our house… Whole 30 compliant by swapping butter for ghee…

– “PF Changs” Chicken Lettuce wraps – these were really tasty as well!
